my forum users are reporting problems with .tar.gz file attachments.

.tar, .gz and .tar.gz have been defined in the allowed extensions list.

files can be uploaded, the problem occurs on extraction, where the files seem to become corrupt. there have been no problems with .zip files.

Curious if maybe your server/browser is uncompressing the .gz extension when the file is being served. I think I've seen this issue somewhere before (not here), will see what I can find.

not sure about that. it's an ubuntu forum: server is ubuntu 8.04; users are (usually) ubuntu 9.xx using firefox.
