I've looked and looked and can't find any way to disable links in signatures.
None of our regular users use links in their signatures...just quotes, etc and sometimes an image...which is ok.
Lately, there is almost a daily trend with spammers that register with links to their websites in their signatures and engaging in silly questions that sometimes rope our faithful members into wasting time on answering them. It is just the past two weeks or so we've seen this and I ban them, but they keep coming ...maybe one every other day.
How can I turn the ability to put a link in a signature off? The path to it in cp would be appreciated.
Thank you.

That would be a mod if you want this, except for images, you cannot turn any ubb code off in signatures.

Is there a mod?
I'm wondering if this a spam machine doing this. It is a new trend we're seeing. They ask simple generic questions and have a company link in their sig.
Has anyone else seen this?

The problem with what you have is the spammers are true humans not just a script. So they pass any captcha or control method you may have implemented. I have not tried it yet but one item you may try is the stop forum spam mod at ubbdev. https://www.ubbdev.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/318736I have used the service manually myself for years and it does a good job to track spammers. I use it when I suspect a spammer registration. If they are in the stop forum spam database I ban then.

Not that I know off. What you could do is set the signature length permission real low for new users, and after a few posts add them to a group that was a larger length. You can do that automaticly.

Thank you...I'll try that next.
We are getting about one a day...a new trend and I wondered if there was a web bot targeting the registration screen..but their questions are getting more specific to engage our crowd.
So I did go into the registration settings and selected "Hide" on "signature" and "view signature". Not sure what each means but noticed that during registration there is not an option for including a signature. That is the appeal to the spammers I think.
