I finally set one of my quieter forums to full moderation mode because of the spammers. Even with the anti-spam software hooked in I was still getting 1 or 2 a day posting junk. It's easier to approve the good messages vs delete out all the bad ones.
How do I set the software to email me when a post is added, so I know to go in and look at it?

From memory it would be a watched forum. So mystuff>watch lists. Select the watched forum tab which is default. Select edit watched forums. Elect to watch and then elect notification option.

Hmmmm I just checked. This forum has about twenty areas. I have every single one watched. And each one says it sends email notification when a new post was created. I just saw that a new post was waiting in moderation. So I approved that post. The post went live. It is only when it went live that I received an email message. I want to receive an email message that the post is pending, waiting for me to approve .

Okay that would be in mystuff>edit preferences. at the bottom. Notify me when a post needs to be approved in a forum I moderate. I never tried it as a admin. So you may need to make yourself a moderator.

for thrills I tried a admin name on a site and added it to the moderator list. The name now appears as a moderator in the forum. But member management still reports the user as a admin as well as the profile.

Here's a related issue - it does still catch new posters which is good - it's blocking a lot of spam from going live.
However, a poster who has made 13 posts now has his posts going live without being moderated. I'm not sure I want any posters' posts going live immediately just yet. Is there a reason some peoples' posts might bypass this full-moderation setting?

Check group management for post counts. It is probably you have the post count populated with a similar number and he was promoted to a new group not moderated.
I seem to recall this happening because it is counting all post's even if it is not approved yet.

Aha, I thought the setting was for the entire forum, not just for one group. Yes, I have a separate group for brand new forum members so they can't PM or anything, to keep spammers under control. Then they graduate to a looser level of restrictions. So now I have both of those groups being moderated.
Thanks!

Lisa, are you using the Stop Forum Spam function? I am, and I can't remember the last time I had a spammer. I think your forums are more active than mine, but I still get well over 300 new registrations each month.

Steve - Yes, I am signed up with them. They block a lot for us. These people that get in are coming in with fresh, clean accounts - and then start spamming with them .

Part of the reason would be that the Stop Forum Spam version that's stock now doesn't do a registration based IP check, it only validates the user email; the initial modification checked the IP before even loading the registration page.
