Is there any guide/wiki I could read about this before turning it on?
Are there any limitations on this feature, such as only making it a positive one (only allowing people to give a good rating to those they think deserve it) without users being able to attack each other with low ratings?

You can only vote once for that member. If you get members giving a member 1 star out of 5 it sticks like mud.
In the end I turned mine off.
There is more success with rate this topic.

I never added it to the wiki just for that reason. Not very many people are pleased with how it functions. because it can be seen as negative or positive votes by how many stars a user has. So they turned it off.
There was talk of a thanks feature like other boards have. Where you thank the member for a post. So all votes are positive votes and no negative votes.

Oh, man... I would go for that...
I also turned off our "member" ratings system... too many complaints.
But the "Thanks" idea would definately work...
I've even pay ($40??) for this code....

A feature where users could only be positively commended would work very well.
Would an alteration to the current code also work, by removing all options but the 5-star one and also changing the stars to something like "Stellar User". So basically users could only vote if they believe this is a top-class poster and it would no longer seem like a ratings feature due to just one choice.

Has anyone tried playing with the code to change this feature into something that works well?

I don't recall anyone has even attempted a mod at all. Giz might know better at ubbdev.

Ubbdev has always been active. It just has a low activity level currently.

I wasn't aware it had been de-activated (as the owner that should be saying something); since most of the users went to other products it's not my fault that it was the active ones .

So overall the focus will shift from posting here to the other site, or will both boards run simultaneously?

So overall the focus will shift from posting here to the other site, or will both boards run simultaneously? UBBDev is a project maintained by myself. The wiki is a project maintained by Ruben and Myself. The UBB owners don't play a part in the operation of either site; they're simply sites operated by a 3rd party entity as resources for users of the UBB (heck, UBBDev is still hosted by Groupee). The Forum Staff here are simply volunteers; I helped make this community more than just a support forum over the years I've been here and I'd just rather not see it fall to the wayside.
