I have found a bug and confirmed it with two other users.

If you have a forum with multiple postings that have a YELLOW flag (meaning that they are UN-READ)---

and you Open any one of them, then ALL of the Yellow flags go WHITE.

Naturally only the READ post's flag should go white.

Ouch... I personally don't use this feature (ie. Never look at the flags), but I have a lot of users who DO.

I know that with a previous upgrade, it hiccupped and didn't work for a while... I head about it almost instantly.

So, now, immediately after the 7.5.8 upgrade, I get notified again that it's not working as expected. So something must have occurred. And I just did it with my account too. Read ONE posting, and ALL remaining YELLOW in that thread turned white.

The wildcard -- is that I rebuilt ALL POSTS last night (in order to restore my missing long postings (3,000+) that was caused by PHP 5.4.21 running UBB 7.5.7. But that doesn't seem to have affected the flags.

Any other ideas or tests that I can run?

On this forum.
I have come into the Bugs forum as there is a Notice of New Posts / Topics along side the Category Bugs on the main page (Orange Squares).
I came in and read two of the four topics.

The two topics ive not read still have the blue envelopes so i know ive not read them.

But the icon on the main forum in the category section is now gone, but i have Topics unread.

Not sure if its related to the above issue.

https://www.ubbcentral.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/forums/2/1/Feedback_&_Suggestions

No Orange New Posts icon on the main Forum but topics to read in the Forum. (Blue Envelopes).

to Add

The unread Post Counts for Topics and Posts On the Main Forum is showing NONE Well nothing is showing (Blank)
in Bugs and Feedback Forum.

In the Bugs Forum
7.5.8 Not enough spaces... = (3) Unread out of 7 posts
Final Support for MySQL upgrade (3) Unread out of 10 posts.

Hope that helps.

revisiting the main forum today.

[Linked Image] Bugs Forum (Correct new Posts).
In the forum 1 unred Topic (SEO Meta Description) 4 Replies (4) Unread.
[Linked Image] Is showning ok against that topic.

So If my thinking is right, your loosing the [Linked Image] on the main forum when you visit the forum even with unread topics / post to view.

Giving the impression there are no more new post, on the main forum.

I believe that has been the behavior for quite some time now...

Mark, it has always been that way because I have brought it up several times.
I usually use the active topics to review if I overlooked a post somewhere.

I don't know what to believe. I've got 4 or 5 users who insist that if they have 5 YELLOW "lightbulbs" and they read ONE thread, that all 5 of the "lightbulbs" turn WHITE.

And I've had it happen to my listings too. So, I can't dismiss it.

Now, I rebuilt ALL of my POSTS on Saturday night (using the CP)... would that have reset some "flag" field??

Still can't get past the board rules.
So I don't know what you use for read and unread images and forums.

Marks post above is how it works here.

forum summary will have orange squares if there are one or more unread posts in a forum.
If you double click on the orange squares it will mark all posts as read in that forum and the orange squares go away.

If you open that forum and have two unread posts they will have the blue square image on the left.
If you open one post. That will clear the blue square for that post only.
If you go back to the forum summary the orange squares will be gone for that forum.
But if you open the forum again you will see the blue square still exists for the one other post you did not read .

That is how it works.

So if it is different than that.
I doubt a rebuild will fix it.
it is a cookie timestamp that tracks new posts.
So no.

So if anything were to fix? it.
try the cookie repair in the mystuff.
Other than that it could be a timestamp issue between the server and the user.

That's been the designed behavior within v7 at least.

One other item.
Light bulbs as a indicator image.
That has been long gone in stock since like classic.
I see no indication of light bulbs at the site in your profile!

But then I can't change the style either as a guest.

It could be that they have a style that uses light bulbs as an indicator; or they're from v6 and are just used to that indication style... I'm pretty sure UBBDev has a boatload of lightbulb indicator graphics from when I requested several people to make various colors for styles back in the UBB.Classic hayday.

Well bill's reference to the lightbulbs was just that, they don't use them.
But I believe the issue was due to the sessions folder had incorrect file/folder permissions.
He corrected it and the issue for the most part seems to have gone away for multiple problems.

Waiting on Bill to reply.

Certain styles from ver 6.x had lightbulbs. I think the default infopop style had lightbulbs.

When ver 7..x came out there were some independent ports of the old infopop style. I know our forum still has an infopop2 style with lightbulbs. We did find that as versions progressed and there were more css attributes in the styles that we have to go back and edit the old styles to populate the new attributes (admin style editor).

With a little bit of housekeeping the old styles still work. On our forums we have a small number of users but they are very partial to their chosen style. We do the style updates so they can continue with "their" style and it keeps them happy.

This is unrelated to the on/off behavior of unread posts and flags for the topic. I've found that clicking "index" and using breadcrumb links results in better behavior of the flags than using the browser back button. Seems the most consistent is using "index" to leave a thread and then bread crumb links to navigate forums.

I think we still have a bunch of on/off lightbulbs at UBBDev
