I have a new server due to a problem on my old one. I do have a backup of the SQL files that I restored on the new server.

So as far as the software portion of ubbthreads I downloaded the current software and followed the new install instructions.

After I copied all the files to my server and verified the permissions, I ran the install script. I used my restored database user and password information. Everything passed: the permissions, database, and paths all were fine. When the install script got to the screen to define the admin user, a message came up saying it was already done.

The initial page of the board was not formatted at all like I was used to, it was pretty hard to read. I clicked on the login link and logged in as the admin user. I then clicked on the control panel link and closed the board. I figured that I needed to run the rebuild utility before I opened the board for use.

But when I went back to the original message board main screen, I got an error message:
Quote
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_DOUBLE_ARROW in /var/www/vhosts/dennyp.com/httpdocs/ubbthreads/includes/config.inc.php on line 106

That line and the ones around it follow. (The bold entry was added by me to point out line 106)
Quote
$config['MAX_WIDTH_IMAGE'] = "400";
$config['HOMEPAGE_TITLE']= "Title for link";
$config['SITE_EMAIL']= "";
$config['SITE_EMAIL_TITLE']= "Contact Us";
$config['PRIVACY_STATEMENT'] = "none";
$config['MAX_AVATAR_SIZE'] = '100000';
$config['BOARD_IS_CLOSED'] => '1'; THIS IS LINE 106
$config['MARKUP_HTML_TOGGLE'] = 0;
$config['DO_AGE_CHECK']= 0;
$config['MINIMUM_AGE'] = 13;
$config['SPECIAL_CHARACTERS']= 1;

I get that same message when I go to dennyp.com/ubbthreads. I am running Php 5.3.3 and sql 5.1.73.

So now what? Suggestions?

Why did you do a new install? Theres a 2007 FAQ article here for transferring your forum...

There is an admin user, you don't want to make another one, all you have to do is move your db over, change perms, then update your config.inc.php file; you don't need to run the installer at all for a move.

I'm not sure why your items are formatted this way, it's supposed to be:
'key' => 'value',

I followed those FAQ instructions, first, before I tried the new install.

I restored my sql files, and loaded a backup of my ubbthreads directory. I then changed the config file lines relating to the database user and password. The paths all stayed the same. There was no change in the domain name or structure.

Then when I started the system I was able to log on. The only thing I did was to change the board setting to close. I got the same error at line 106. I don't know why the config items are formatted that way either. They started out as 'key'=>'value'. But after I enter the control panel and close the board the config file is completely reformatted into the structure above.

What should I try next?

One more try before hitting the hay.

1. Started with a fresh/empty ubbthreads directory on my new server and the sql database restored from a backup to the new server.
2. Copied the ubbthreads backup directory and subdirectory from my old server back onto the new server
3. chmod all the required directory and files as noted in the install instructions
4. When I first tried the url dennyp.com/ubbthreads I got a formatted error message saying there was a database error. I expect that since the sql user and password changed.
5. I changed in config ..
'DATABASE_USER' => 'username',
'DATABASE_PASSWORD' => 'password',
as required.
6. I checked the various path entries in the config file and they looked ok.
7. Now I get: The page isn't redirecting properly.

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

From Chrome: The webpage at http://www.dennyp.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer.

If you have a current/active license, you could submit a trouble-ticket?
https://www.ubbcentral.com/tickets/members.php

You paid for that service. There is no excuse for UBBCentral to not provide results to you in a timely manor.

The answers that you will get from this "user to user" public forum, are from regular end-users such as yourself.

The only person on this forum who is paid by UBBCentral, is SD. But he only posts a couple times every few months.

Another option would be to contact James (Gizmo). While he is not employed by UBBCentral, he is highly knowledgeable with UBBT and has contributed so much code that had made its way in to the UBBT. His services are paid-services, but he his extremely professional and overly qualified to support everything related to UBB.

Since we don't know all the details of the move and as giz noted the format is incorrect for the config file and you did a install.
I would suspect that some htaccess file is hosing the site.
Why not just use a hello world php test script and upload it to dennyp.com/ubbthreads.
browse to it and see if it runs.

Php is working ok. I have a script at http://dennyp.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreadsoos.php that works fine.

As noted 5 postings above,I reloaded all the original ubbthreads directory files from a backup on my old server. The config file is not hosed anymore.

Here's an update on my situation at this time.

I decided to start all over with moving my ubbthreads to a new server.
I restored the SQL files on the new server with no problems or messages. The sql database as restored had a different userid and password than on the old system.
I restored the ubbthreads directory from my old server. The paths in the new server are the same as in the old server.
I changed permissions as noted in the install docs to 777 and 666 where needed.

Using the original config file with no changes I get

Quote
UBB Message
We encountered a problem. The reason reported was
Database error only visible to forum administrators

Please click back to return to the previous page.

So I left the config file alone and changed the database userid and password to match the original system.
With the correct password I get ...
Quote
The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.

Any new thoughts? I'm on 7.5.7. (I did open a support ticket. But I am hoping that someone here has some ideas.)

Since I get an actual Ubbthreads formatted message when I start it up using an incorrect SQL user/password, then get the redirect error after I correct the SQL userid/password it seems like there is something in the database that may be causing the redirect. Are there any command line parameters that I can issue that might help in that area?
