I have noticed that if you approve a post and then unapprove it it will make the entire thread unapproved so that only the admin will see the thread in the forum. You will have to go into the backend to fix the issue...so be careful if you approve and if you want to unapprove the post delete it instead.
I have a thread and all is good. Someone adds a post which I approve and then after it is approved I read it. I decide I dont want it it published so I unapprove the post, and then delete it...it then unapproves the entire thread. I know that the admin can see the thread. If I log out it the entire thread is longe visible.
Back to my admin login I can see and read the thread, however in the list of threads in the forum the thread in question show a red "!" to the left on the thread title.
I dont have moderators or so I cant answer the moderator/global moderator issue for you.
I am approving from the control panel and unapproving and deleting within the thread.
This is not the case on one of my sites. I am on UBB 7.7.5 what version are you using?
The latest version. 7.7.5 and t has happened multiple times because I keep forgetting not to do it
Question: when you do it and you say you dont have an issue do you log out and look at the thread list and see the thread? If it want for a user I would never know that that all my unregistered users can't see it while I can!!!!
Are you using the "Thread Options" menu to unapprove the thread?
Or are you editing the post and clicking on the "Unapprove Post" button?
The Exclamation mark you mentioned earlier tells me that you are unapproving the entire thread.
Please confirm.
time saving tip: there is no reason to unapprove a reply when your planned next step is to delete that reply. you can easily just delete the reply you dont want on your thread by clicking the post's "Edit" button, and choosing "Delete Post" from there.
This is hard for me to test because we do not moderate posts. But see the attachment It only has the post in question pending. Is that what you see? Or is the complete thread showing pending

I see the post in the control panel and approve it. I then go to the forum to read the post. if I dont want it published I unapprove it if I want to re-read it and check the IP sending it, and I then go back to the control panel and delete the post.
My site is extremely busy and I find it easier and less time consuming to approve first and then read. I hope this answers your question

The complete thread isn't showing to anyone but an admin. I have to have the person who is a programmer go into the backend to do whatever he does to get the entire thread approved....
We are attempting to ascertain as to how you are unapproving this post.
Additionally, why would you go back to the control panel to delete the post? It seems it'd be faster to remove the post while already reviewing it in the main forum... You can both unapprove and remove a post through the "edit" button which should be the mechanism on how you do either from the front end.
I think he means he is dealing with a reply and when he un-approves it ,it un-approves the entire topic and all other replies. Not just the post in question.
Is that correct Larry?

The question still stands; step by step, how are you unapproving a post?
You should edit the post in question and click the "unapprove post" button, is this how you are unapproving posts?
If you edit the original post in a thread and select "unapprove post" it would unapprove the entire topic (as the OP is not approved then content shouldn't be displayed as responses to that post)
I do what I do and that's how I do it....I can only tell you what I did and what the result is...clearly I wont be doing it again as I have to pay someone to fix the problem and after 5 times I have finally gotten not to do it
The complete thread isn't showing to anyone but an admin.
Thats by design. Only Admin, Forum Moderators, Global Moderators can see unapproved posts.
I understand that part...did not know that unapproving a single post upapproved the entire thread..as the link says UNAPPROVE POST and notn Unapprove thread.
I think he means he is dealing with a reply and when he un-approves it ,it un-approves the entire topic and all other replies. Not just the post in question.
Is that correct Larry?
Correct Reuben, I am unapproving a reply to a post in a thread. Thank you for making that clear.
I just want the exact step by step process on how you are unapproving a post, starting at the thread list before you even enter the topic... Without being able to replicate your issue there is nothing we can do to *fix* your issue.
Just simply saying

I do what I do and that's how I do it....
doesn't help us in recreating your issue; again, please provide a full bug report with every step involved in how you're able to create this issue, so that we can replicate it to propose a fix...
Full Steps Required: 1. I click on the subject title to open the tread 2. 3. 4. 5. The entire thread is now unapproved!

I though I did that, but here goes....
Full Steps Required: 1. I go the control panel and see posts that need to be approved 2. I approve the posts 3. I go to the forum and read the posts 4. I find a post that I dont like, but want to read it or check the posting IP so I unapprove the pst 5. I go back t the control panel after fully reading it to make sure I dont want it published 6. In the control panel I delete the post 5. The entire thread is now unapproved!
Ok, I want the process on how you are doing #4, from starting at #3: 3. I go to the forum and read the posts 4. I find a post that I dont like, but want to read it or check the posting IP so I unapprove the pst
What are you clicking, what buttons, what do they say... Tell me every little step... because editing a post and choosing "unapprove" is not doing for us, what you say it's doing for you...
3. I go to the forum and read the posts 4. I find that even though I published the post, now that I've read it, I dont want to publish the postbut want to hold it for a period of time for whatever reason.so I unapprove the post (so far so good?)
THEN after a minute or 3, I delete the post from the control panel.
where is the button on the page that unapproved your post? that would help us track down how you are doing it.
is it one of the buttons in the screenshot that gizmo posted? what does the button words say? where in the thread page is this button located? top or bottom or middle or within what section?
However I logged out and visited as a guest the complete topic is missing not just the reply. Went back as logged in ,the topic appeared again and only reply marked as not approved. Edited Allen's reply marked as approved.
As a guest I can now see the topic and reply again.
So this can be replicated and on this site.

On this item Larry in my testing I just edit the post again and approve ,no database repair needed.
