Hi,

I have only enabled .gif,.jpg,.jpeg in CP >> attachment
Settings for Full Image Max Width/Height is 800px and not the 1920 as in default.
A .jpg is compressed to 800px max and the image file is between 50-100kb compressed.

I have sometimes enabled .png format but it does not compress the image
I tested it here a moment ago.

First post contains a .png a .jpg and a .jpeg
The only format that does not compress is .png.

Is there a way to turn on compression for .png and for example .heic?

I attach a .png here that is 799px and 446kb to see if it compress

Honestly,

I have not used .png and .heic because of the large amount of MegaBytes they hold.

what is your experience with many large size images in long threads?

We do have several really long threads containing loads of images such as this

first page contains 50 images and there are 110 similar pages in this thread only.

This is why i am hesitant to allow other formats than .png .jpg and .jpeg but out members are not happy cause their phones and other gears use .heic and .png.

Do you have any recommendations what to do???

PNG images are often RAW/Source material, generally the compression of these files attempts to be lossless compression, whereby the image will look the same but with less color information (PNG-24 format supports over 16 million colors).

On BlueHost it often errored out when attempting to compress a 700k PNG file with GD, utilizing the available ImageMagick binaries on the system allowed compression processing without issues. From our tests, there isn't much to really compress since PNG is a lossless format already.

I’ll keep my settings and not enable .png for the time being.
