These are two often used functions that should appear with their own, prominent links (or buttons) on the forum page and perhaps even the portal page.
I realize that they are accessable from these pages via a drop down, but sending a PM takes 3 clicks. Making a post is hidden in the "forum options" dropdown. It's not my first guess as to where to look.

We definitely plan on having some type of graphic for new topic visible either beside or on top of the topic options dropdown. This is definitely something that needs to be out in the open. Sending a PM, this we could probably add to the "My Space" dropdown to make it a bit quicker as for acessibility. Speaking of "My Space" this wording might change at some point. Just looking for something "catchy"

Giving "Send PM" it's own entry on the drop down should be fine.
How about calling "my space" area:
[Username]'s Options
So on my screen, it would say, "Evanair's Options". That should be pretty easy for users to figure out.

I really agree on this. Making a post should be its very own button that is right on the top of the page, very visible. As it is, on my current ubb.threads forums we always get people writing us to ask us how to make posts when the link is right there. If the link is hidden, the volume of email is going to increase dramatically. Never mind that a portion of our visitors are older / have poor vision and if they have to hunt for something, or if something isn't right on the page for a text-reader to find, it's going to cause all sorts of grief.
