For some reason we are getting strange duplication with our Forum. When you do a search and you select group, then pull down the dropdown list the groups are duplicated 3 times! A query against the w3t_groups table confirms this and they all have different group ID's. Am I safe to just delete the duplicate groups using an sql query? I've checked in the w3t_user table and no users seem to be members of these duplicate groups.
Were also getting the same duplication in the w3t_graemlins table but these are only duplicated twice. Again am I safe to just remove the duplicate items using an sql query?
Thanks in advance for any help. Rob

If nobody is assigned to the groups you can delete them AFTER making sure there are no forum permissions associated to the groups.
And you can remove the dupe graemlins as well, I would imagine.
As to why they are being duplicated I'll leave to Rick to answer, I am not able to. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

David thanks for the reply, how wouold I check to see if there are any forum permissions assigned to these groups?
I can't imagine for a minute there would be as we didn't put them there but I don't want to remove them if its going to cause problems.
PS. removed duplicate graemlins fine. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Do you have alot of forums? If you don't have a ton of them then probably the easiest thing would be to run the following query and see if any of the forums come up with any of the duplicate group numbers:
SELECT Bo_Read_Perm,Bo_Write_Perm,Bo_Reply_Perm FROM w3t_Boards

I've seen this happen before. Generally when the groups and graemlins table gets duplicated, it means the createtable.php or one of the altertables is still on the server and somebody is running it.
You should be able to remove duplicates with something like PHPMyAdmin and then be sure to remove the createtable.php, altertable*.php scripts and the install.php file. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I ran that query Rick and there were no permissions set for any of the duplicate groups.
JP I removed the groups with an sql query from the admin page DELETE from W3t_Groups WHERE G_Id > 45; I don't know anything about PHPMyAdmin although I've read about it in the installation notes from this site?!?! How would I access PHPMyAdmin for my site?
I've really gotto learn all this stuff because as soon as I get the rest of the faults bottomed I've got to get the upgrade installed <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
Talking of upgrades is there any ideas of dates for the next release of the software v6.5 as I wouldn't want to go to version 6.4.2 then 6.5 come out a week later. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

That query should work. phpMyAdmin is something most webhosts will provide you with - it's a separate program so it's not part of UBB.Threads. It's handy because you can visually see the database. It's available at www.phpmyadmin.net and it's free. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> So were all the groups deleted? Try this query to see. SELECT * FROM w3t_Groups

Yep they were all deleted no problems. Slowly but surely I'm working down the list of problems with our board (non of them the fault of the ubbt by the way just a server move done badly I think).

Well, that's the point - you don't want them all deleted. You need the standard groups. If you run these queries, it'll put back the standard groups:
INSERT INTO `w3t_Groups` VALUES ('Administrators', 1, 0); INSERT INTO `w3t_Groups` VALUES ('Moderators', 2, 0); INSERT INTO `w3t_Groups` VALUES ('Users', 3, 0); INSERT INTO `w3t_Groups` VALUES ('Guests', 4, 0);

Sorry Josh didn't explain myself very well there. I checked the group numbers first with a select query then ran a delete where group is greater then 5 so I kept the original groups. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Ah :waytogo:
Then you should be fine. I wanted to make sure you had those basic groups there.
Now check your server and make sure you remove the createtable.php file as well as install.php and any altertable**.php scripts as if someone wanted, they could run those in their browser and mess up your board. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

They would be in the ubbthreads directory. If they aren't there now, maybe they were at one point. The install instructions call for them to be deleted, but many people forget. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Just verify that they aren't there and you won't have this problem again.
