Or maybe a stupid person asking? <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> lol

1st question. We have recently upgraded to 6.4.2. We were on 5.5.1. On 5.5.1, users could have replies to their posts emailed to them. This feature is gone from 6.4.2, and instead there is email replies to my favorite threads. Is there any way to get this back?

2nd question. We have custom user titles. We have changed them in the Admin section, but they keep reverting back to the "stock" titles. I read another thread saying that some changes are not saved properly if any altertables and the install.php files are not deleted from the directory. Would this be the place to look for a solution to our problem as well?

Thanks for your assistance! <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

#1 - well the new feature is more versitile. The old way people only got replies to their post - but many people just click reply at the end of the thread. So the new feature allows them to get replies to the whole thread, and they can get replies to threads without having to post in it themselves. Also under the old way, there was no way for the user to stop receiving those emails once they added it. So the new way, they simply remove it from their favorites.

That said - there may be modifications to restore the old functionality at ThreadsDev.com - I think I remember something like that being posted back when the new feature came out. Note if you modify anything, you can lose your ability to obtain support. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> So the usual warnings apply.

#2 - Shouldn't be related. If you upgraded and accidentally Overwrote any files in the /filters directory - then you would have lost your titles. Check the /filters/usertitles file. Make sure this is writable and edit it from the admin menu.

We have updated the user titles several times, and they continue to revert back to the "stock" titles.

I will have our contact check the /filters/usertitles file, but we change and save the updated titles, and they appear changed for a day or so, then revert back to the default values.

I don't see how that's possible unless the file was not writable and was never really updated - or unless when you go back to view them (to edit) your browser is remembering the values you filled in last time (like auto-complete) etc...

but the titles are read from the text file in the filters directory. They aren't database related and nothing else (install scripts etc...) does anything at all with them.
If you had different titles in there at some point, you'll have to check the box to update everyone again, or else any old titles will stay stuck and no longer advance with post count, as it'll appear like a custom title.

OK, I'll try updating everyone and see if that does it. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Thank you. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
