Hi all,
We have succesfully upgraded a couple of wwwthreads 5.3 and 5.4 forums to UBBThreads 6.5.1, and would now like to try and do this for some much older versions. We're looking at some 3.5.1 installs, and there are no altertable-*.php scripts going back that far, and I know that the database structure will be wildly different.
Now, we could probably try and reverse-engineer this, and come up with our own import scripts to move a 3.5.1 database to a 5.3 once, and then take the upgrade from there as per usual. However, this will be a lot of work, so I'd appreciate any pointers...
Has anyone attempted this before ? Is there somewhere where I can download old archived versions of wwwthreads so I can try using the altertable scripts provided in later versions to bring it up to 5.3 / 5.4 ?
Thanks for any input!
-Mark

Mark,
Not sure how far back my archive goes, but I know I have .zip copies of every major version (which should include all alter-table scripts) dating back at least a few years.
Will check and reply - still not sure that will help you, but it might be a start.

Put a suppport ticket in - as long as you have a current members area, then IP will (I am sure) supply you with the required files.

If we have them. At this point I would not be surprised at all if Medar's collection goes back farther than ours . We (Infopop) did not get involved with Rick until into the 5 series so we have nothing older. Rick might, but I recall his computer died not so long ago, I do not know if he still has those older versions anymore.

Very true - forgot that 4 and before was wwwthreads - apologies. Sadly I do not seem to still have my wwwthreads install files. Medar is your man <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Well, if it would help, I can confirm we have a full license for UBBThreads, and are a paying customer ? Perhaps if I raised a support ticket, someone at InfoPop could act as a go-between ? Or give some kind of formal notice that they are OK with their software being passed like this ?

Actually, it would probably be best if the copies were sent to us - other customers may need them in the future, and fleshing our archive would be a good thing. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
(For example, a few years ago we found a copy of UBB 3.0 that we were able to obtain from a customer. It had previously been lost.)

OK, I'll open a support ticket then - when you (InfoPop) receive copies could you then send them on to me ?

Check my main box after getting home from traveling last night, and on my current PC all I have is wwwthreads5.x and forward.
I know I have back into the 4's and 3's somewhere, probably on my old PC. Will start digging around.

Hi I am having a problem right now with the files that they are saved on (They are stored in a Superdisk) and my drive is messed from what I have read there is an allignment problem with superdisks and in any event I am currently unable to get at the files (to even see how far back I do go) I have ordered there allignement disk but have not recieved it yet (also have not been billed which is not a good sign) I will give it another week or so before I call Imation and find out what is up with the order. as soon as I can access the files I will email you what I have. I am sorry for the convoluted answer to this but as I have found out all backup methods have there own inherent problems.

For what it's worth, I went ahead and did the manual work myself. It took a while, but I managed to work out a collection of scripts that convert an ancient install to a state where it can be upgraded by UBBThreads. I managed to get most stuff across, users, boards, posts etc. but some stuff did go missing (file attachments), and permissions needed to be re-done for each board afterwards.
If anyone else is ever in the same situation, drop me a line (PM or email at mark underscore round at ipcmedia dot com) and I'll let you know the details (the scripts are largely specific to our situation, but I'll share what I can).

I have found what I have sorry for taking so long but finally got my superdisk problems worked out. I do not have anything further back than 5.1.2 (that is complete and still zipped) but I think that version includes update files that go back to 4.0 if you want them let me know Laurie I know that Mark has apparrently got his problems solved but this may help someone else someday.

but this may help someone else someday Good Call If you are still around and you still have those scripts, I'd like to get a copy of them. I actually have a site that is running (at best) 5.1.2 that I'd like to get upgraded. I put off upgrading it for years because of the amount of custom hacks that I've done to it, but it really just needs it now. Either PM me or shoot me an email if ya could... cgregg ~AT~ speakeasy.net Thanks in advance!

hehe, that IS scary I want to get it upgraded to at least 6.5.5 (if not all the way to 7.1), so anything you can find that will help toward that I'm all for Allen, can you email me the 5.1.5(php) package (or at least the sql parts)? I'd like the older altertable scripts from it in case I need them. I just noticed that the 6.5.5 install has scripts as far back as `altertable-5.2-5.3`, so if I can just get myself the `5.1-5.2` script from somewhere, I'd be good to go.
