I just noticed that the maximum date range search is 1 year. Is this admin settable or hard coded? This would be a major concern for our site as we have 7+ years worth of data that I'd like to remain searchable.

This is an admin config option. You can set it from anywhere from 1 day up to 100 years laugh

Nice! I just noticed the user has the option to blank out the Days/Weeks/Months/Years drop-down. Does that in effect disable the search date limitation? If so, it would be nice to have that default to blanked out to allow full search.

Blanking it out basically makes it so it will search all posts within the admin defined range. The limit is there since on sites with tons of posts searching every post can be a pretty large database hit. Now that we're fulltext indexed it might not be quite as bad, but when a user searches something like 700,000 posts for the word 'truck' it can be fairly intensive wink This is why we keep the default a smaller range, just so users don't bombard the search engine unless they really need to do extensive searching.
