1. How can I make my visitors to enter directly to the forum without an index.html page. I'm using refresh=0 but sometimes it get's sluggish anyway.

2. Is there a way to have more than 4 Moderators per forum?

By the way I used Support Ticket and it was a terrific service.

Thanks!

Make a blank html page with:

<html>
<head>
</head>
<body>
< !--#include virtual="/ubb/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi"-->
</body>
</html>

Set the pathing to fit your setup. This should pull in your ubb, name the page index.html and it will load when they visit your site.

Example: http://www.yourdomainname.com/

in the root you put the index.html.

For question 2, try www.ubbdev.com as this require editing some files.

Hope this helps <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

There are a number of ways to redirect a browser. This is a simple JavaScript routine which should work with late model browsers. (You can also use SSI or server redirect commands.)

Create a text file named index.html (or whatever you want it to be. Use the following code with the correct URL to your ultimatebb.cgi in BOTH places calling for the href.

Upload to your document root (or to the directory where you want the users to enter) in ascii mode.

Code
<html>
<head>

<script LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
< !-- hide from older or disabled browsers
location.href="http://www.YourDomain.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi";
//-->
</script>

</head>

<body>

<noscript>

<blockquote>
You have JavaScript disabled or your browser does not support it,
please click
[URL=http://www.YourDomain.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi]here[/URL]
to go to the Bulletin Board. Please bookmark for future reference.
</blockquote>

</noscript>

</body>
</html>

I'd like to say that if you do this
<HTML>
<BODY>
< !--#include virtual="cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi" -->

etc
then you will get nested HTML tags

I just created an index page with *NOTHING* but this

< !--#include virtual="cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi" -->

of course - the ubb page generates the appropriate HTML tags and it works just fine.

Correct. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

You can also do this with server-side redirects, like .htaccess files (for Apache servers).

Something like:
Redirect / /path/to/ultimatebb.cgi
should work as well.

I followed JC's advice. I made and uploaded to my site a blank html page with:

<html>
<head>
</head>
<body>
< !--#include virtual="/ubb/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi"-->
</body>
</html>

It only works for me if I make the file a shtml, not a html.

But when I just put "my_website.org" in the location window, it will only show my index file if my index is "index.html", and not if it is "index.shtml".

So the only way to make it work is to put "my_website.org/index.shtml" in the location window.

Am I missing something? Thank you.

To tell te truth it didn't worked for me too. It directed me to a blanck page, so I created a new empty page with just the html etc. tags and got back to refresh=O.
At least it works, and being the page empty I'm redirected quicker than before.
Thanks.

The index.html/shtml issue is a host one.

Did you try the .htaccess solution I suggested?

(see my last post, 2 posts up)

I emailed my host and they said "index.shtml can be just make sure you do not have a index.html in their as that takes precedence." It's working now. I think they fixed it. I am very pretty sure I was not making a mistake before.

To make it work you must have SSI ability on your server. Most do today so I didn't mention it. My Bad..

The JavaScript appraoch I posted above will work on any site (NT or Unix) as it is the browser that does the work. The page allows for browsers that cannot handle JavaScript by presenting them a link.

Both SSI and redirect will work fine if your host has configured the server for it or allows you to override with an .htaccess file.

Graeme: I have Unix hosting, and, as a newbie, do not know what's their relation with Apache servers.
Thanks
