Is there a way to make everyone come through the Portal Page?? I know people can bookmark other pages but I put important announcements on the Portal Page and people don't see them. These people don't see the announcements even when I make them global!!!! I'm tried answering question that already are answered on the portal page.

I dont think so ? Once they have the "Forum" link there going to go past it. I used my signature to announce announcements, as in supplying a link. If they don't want to read it they wont read it Just the way it is

Sure you can put a cookie type entry that would redirect back to that page if it had not been read in x amount of days.

Again I whine about the way Global Announcements work in PHPBB, whereby they're placed on the top of the category listing page in a big box that you can't help but see...

I just installed 7.2.1 today. Went nice ans smooth. Now I can see some of the new features in action. I particularly like the one about making people agree to the board rules the next time they come in. Now in reference to this thread, can a mechanism be put in place that will redirect them to a particular message the next time they come in. It would be great for announcements. I get people not seeing announcements because the go into their favorite forum instead of the Portal page where you would normally put an announcement. Any thoughts????

All of those ideas will work, but Mark S said, if they don't want to read it they won't. I just want a way to "SHOW IT" to them and a positive action to get rid of it. Read it or not, they had the opportunity.
Even the Global Announcement won't work because when they use the "Active Message" tool to come in they go right to the message and don't see the Global.
I just can't come up with a way that isn't fool prove.

well, it's totally possible. i don't see it as creeping into stock real quick though.
if you really want something done, ask over @ ubbdev for help or ask a coding guy to do it for you.

Sirdude: Thanks, I'll probably go over to the dev site and ask for hints. I'm trying to learn php, so it'll be a good excerise for me. Just need the time. I'll probably find the script used for "Forcing" people to ACCEPT the board rules and hack it!!
Still fishing in NJ!!
