A mixture of brand-new and expertly refurbished used parts. My classic computers are a little more special than the others you see here on . Mine come with new and refreshed versions of their old operating systems, and come loaded with lots of fun games and useful software.
I think you will agree that my standard of cleanliness and presentation are a touch above.
I have been building PCs for the last 23 years and have built over 300 computers in my career. I used computers like these back when they were new and relevant and have intimate knowledge and experience of how they work.
This computer:
Is a late 90's server from Dell. I've converted it into a legacy workstation/industrial PC. It has TWO Pentium III 866Mhz PGA socket CPUs installed which work in tandem for early multicore processing. Note that Windows 98 is not capable of multithreading, so you will only benefit from the second CPU in Windows XP, or other multi-core supporting OS.
This would have originally had SCSI storage drives but these are very rare and expensive today, and not necessarily any faster than newer IDE storage devices. So I installed IDE Hard-Drives via a Promise ATA card to give the computer more IDE lanes. The sole SCSI device in this computer is the Python tape drive.
-160GB Main HDD - 32GB for Win98, and the Remainder for XP.
-80GB secondary HDD which is visible to both operating systems and formatted in FAT32.
-Basic audio card installed for sound.
-USB 2.0 card installed for high-speed USB data transfer and more ports.
-Intake fan removed (horribly noisy and redundant in the new build, you will need to press F1 on every boot to pass a warning about this fan's absence from the BIOS.)
-CPU shroud removed and discarded. The Pentium III is a cool running chip and this was also redundant and actually impaired cooling.
On boot you are presented with a simple menu with choice of OS.
Please note that is a heavy, industrial workstation PC. It's very large and heavy, and has powerful fans.
-Running the standard versions of Windows 98 SE and Windows XP Professional 32-Bit SP3.
Complete disassemble and deep clean of all parts. CPU block and heatsink resurfaced with new thermal paste.

-A computer monitor with a VGA connection. I recommend older square-aspect models. I do not recommend using a TV even if it has a VGA port. I do not recommend using a VGA converter of any kind.
-A PS/2 port mouse and/or keyboard will be needed to log on to Windows 98 for the first time. USB peripherals do work with Windows 98 but you will need a PS/2 model to log in for the first time. You can also use a serial mouse. I do not recommend using a PS/2 converter of any kind.

As of May 2023, Fedex & UPS have resumed ground shipments to Alaska.
