Intel Pentium III Xeon 500 MHz Slot 2 server CPU with Compaq heatsink, SL2XU, Tanner, 512K cache,100 MHz FSB

Here is a historically important CPU: the very first Pentium III Xeon processor, which was made for a server with four processors. Intel released this on 3/17/1999, less than a year after their very first Xeon for $931. At the same time, Intel released similar Xeons with 1MB cache for $1980 and with 2MB cache for $3692.

It runs internally at 5 times the memory speed for 100 MHz. It uses the Tanner core, 250 nanometer traces, and has 512KB of full speed L2 cache. It draws up to 36W of power.

The heatsink I include was added by Compaq. It is fastened to the back of the Xeon with four torx screws. Compaq gave this CPU their part number 179616-002.
