We are offering authentic vintage magnetic tape reels from the Soviet ES EVM computer series.
Technical 9-track, 1600 bpi (IBM 9-track standard)
Reel Diameter: 8.7 inches (220 mm)
Tape Width: 0.5 inch (12.7 mm)
Materials: Plastic and aluminum Designed for ES-5025 modules; compatible with ES-10XX, Minsk-32, SM-4, and other Soviet mainframe systems.
Condition:The reels are in good condition. Due to long-term storage, the cases may show signs on the surface. Please see the photos for the detailed condition.
Historical Context: The 9-track tape format was the backbone of data storage in the 1970s and 80s, introduced alongside the IBM System/360. In the Soviet Union, these tapes were essential for industrial applications and scientific research, serving the same role as modern hard drives or cloud storage. The magnetic tape drives (such as the ES-5002, ES-5012, or ES-5025) were massive, heavy-duty peripherals weighing up to 500 kg.
Beyond their industrial use, these high-quality tapes were highly sought after by audiophiles in the 1970s and 80s for recording music on home reel-to-reel tape recorders like Jupiter, Mayak, and Dnipro, where they were known for their excellent performance.
