Commodore CBM 4040 floppy drive for PET computer - EXCELLENT CONDITION
Price: US $599.00
This Commodore CBM 4040 floppy drive was used in a University setting decades ago, and has been in a dry, stable storage environment. After receiving it, I tested it on my own PET computer (see pics), and it works beautifully. It's evident that a couple of RAM chips have been replaced over the years. I adjusted the drive speed back to 300 RPM, and cleaned the drive rails and drive heads.
This drive is in excellent working condition. It operates on DOS 2.1, which was a major upgrade from the DOS 1.0 that came with Commodore's 2040 floppy drive model. It's for this reason that the CBM 4040 is more difficult to find than the 2040 and 8040 models - it was the first to feature a fully-functioning DOS firmware without all the original glitches in the model 2040.
The drive includes a connected power cord. It does not include a IEEE-488 cable, nor a user manual. The PET computer in the pictures is not for sale.
The Commodore CBM 4040 floppy drive is a vintage piece of computer hardware designed specifically for the PET computer. Made by the brand Commodore in the United States, this unit is compatible with Commodore products and offers a convenient way to store and transfer data. Its retro design and functionality make it a sought-after collector's item for vintage computing enthusiasts looking to restore or preserve the authenticity of their classic PET computer setup.
