Up for sale is a vintage Compaq Contura Aero 4/25, one of the earliest subnotebooks, released in 1994. This one is in fantastic cosmetic condition for its age.
SPECIFICATIONS
- Model: Compaq Contura Aero 4/25 (Series 2830)
- Processor: Intel 486SX 25 MHz
- RAM: 4 MB onboard (memory expansion board removed, not included)
- Screen: 8" monochrome backlit LCD
- Year: 1994
CONDITION
Very light wear overall, with only minor scuffs and light scratches consistent with age. The case, hinges, keyboard, and trackball are all intact. The screen is in great shape with no scratches. Please see photos for exact condition.
FUNCTION
The laptop powers on, the screen and backlight work, and the power lights come on. At startup it displays "101-I/O ROM Error" and "101-ROM Error" (shown in photos) and does not boot further. The same errors appear with the memory expansion board removed. No extensive testing has been performed beyond this.
These errors typically point to a firmware/ROM issue. Compaq released ROMPaq system ROM updates for this model (SP1992), so it may be recoverable by someone experienced with these machines, but this is not guaranteed. Sold as-is for repair or parts.
MEMORY
The optional memory expansion board has been removed and is not included. The laptop has its 4 MB of onboard memory, and the expansion slot is empty and ready for an upgrade.
