📜 A Plug-and-Play ISA Network Card from the Late 1990s

Offered here is a D-Link DE-220PCT Rev. D2 16-bit ISA Ethernet adapter designed for IBM-compatible personal computers.

This card combines the two principal Ethernet connections found in desktop computers of the period:

• RJ45 for 10BASE-T twisted-pair Ethernet
• BNC for 10BASE2 Thin Ethernet coax

The dual-connector design made the card useful during the transition away from coaxial networking. A computer equipped with the DE-220PCT could be used on a conventional twisted-pair LAN or an older Thin Ethernet installation without changing adapters.

⚙️ Plug-and-Play ISA and NE2000 Compatibility

The DE-220P family was designed to simplify ISA network configuration by supporting Plug-and-Play and software-controlled resource settings.

Its NE2000-compatible architecture provided support for a broad range of DOS, Windows and other legacy networking environments. It represents a later, more convenient generation of ISA networking than earlier cards configured entirely through physical jumpers.

💾 Unpopulated Boot-ROM Socket

The large DIP socket at position U3 is intended for an optional network boot ROM.

The socket is empty. The green words “BOOT ROM” visible in the photographs are printed directly on the circuit board underneath the open socket; they are not labels on an installed chip.

No boot ROM is installed or included.

An appropriate compatible ROM could historically be used for a diskless workstation or network-boot installation, while conventional systems would load their network driver from local storage.

💗 Physical Condition

The circuit board appears clean and complete. The network controller, transformer modules, oscillator, configuration hardware, RJ45 connector, BNC connector and empty boot-ROM socket are present.

The ISA edge contacts show normal insertion wear. The metal mounting bracket has age-related discoloration and handling marks.
