The BlackCauldron is a 3D animated adventure game. Loaded with great features such as:Over 1,000 cells of animation, including 30 animated characters that walk,talk, run, climb and even swim; 70 3D screens more detailed than any seenbefore, in up to 16 colors; Six built-in arcade sequences and mazes, includinga moat teeming with hungry alligators, a slippery castle wall with guardstossing boulders down, and teetery rocks that form a path across a treacherousswamp; Over 30 different items to obtain and use, including a "truthful"harp, a handful of fairy dust, and a magic sword; Eight different musicaltunes, in different areas of the game, all from the musical score of Disney’sThe Black Cauldron movie; Multiple solutions and variable scoring.
Sierra releasedthis game in 1986 and supplied PC Dealers with demo copies that could be usedin the stores. The demos would have beenthe earliest versions of the game. This itemwas a store demo (sticker on the cover of the box) and as a result, shows someobvious signs of use. It also includes a“Demo Disk” which is somewhat hard to find.It was acquired during a bankruptcy sale for a dealer and was used (andfunctioning normally) by my children after that before ending up in climatecontrolled storage for the past thirty years.I do not have a way to test the disks at this time so the item is soldAS IS – no guarantee that the disks still work.
Since there wasnot a tray to hold the contents of the game, the box is somewhat flattened andshows wear around the corners, edges, and flaps. The Black Cauldron manual is still attachedto the box and in great shape with all pages intact – no markings, tears or dogeared pages. The card with loadinginstructions and keyboard / game commands is easy to read; there is a tearalong one of the folds. Likewise, themap is complete with minor signs of handling although one of the folds has afew inch tear. The photos attempt toshow all of these imperfections. I thinkthe only thing that is missing are the joystick / keyboard stickers.
