Up for sale is a Data Robotics (Drobo) 4-Bay USB/Firewire Direct Attach Storage (DAS) 3.5" HDD enclosure, model DRO4D-D and part number 900-00003-001.
We connected this unit to a 12V benchtop power supply (power adapter is NOT included) and a computer with the Drobo Dashboard 3.5.0 installed, and installed 2x3TB drives in the unit (drives are also NOT included). We powered the unit on, and after a short while, the Drobo Dashboard software recognized the device and drives. We were able to format the drives and copy data to/from the drives.
During our testing, we did hear some rattling from the fan - we are not sure if it was the fan itself, or if there may have been something inside that was hitting the fan blades (perhaps a broken piece of plastic). Additionally, the unit was rather dirty/dusty inside. We did blow it out with some compressed air, but it could benefit from a deep clean before being put into service. Because of all of these issues, we are listing the unit "For parts or not working" and it is being sold as-is with no returns accepted.
Additionally, please be aware that Drobo is no longer in business. As such, there is no official place to download the software. We were able to find the software hosted online from other users, but since the software is rather old and no support/updates will be coming, we cannot guarantee it will work on modern computers/operating systems, or for how long it will work.
Both the Drobo DRO4D-D unit and front cover do show some signs of use and wear such as scratches and scuff marks and dirt/dust.
