WHAT THIS ISThe HP-branded slimline SATA DVD-ROM optical drive used in ProLiant servers. This is the genuine HP spare, part number 481428-001, made for HP by TEAC as the DV-28S. If you are servicing a ProLiant and the parts list calls for 481428-001, 461644-932 or 484034-001, this is that part.
It fits the 12.7mm slimline optical bay found in HP ProLiant DL360 G6/G7, DL380 G6/G7 and DL385 G7 servers, among others. Always check your server's parts list or spare-part label against the numbers above before buying.
PLEASE READ - THIS IS A DVD-ROM, IT DOES NOT BURNThis drive READS discs only. It cannot write or burn anything - not CDs, not DVDs, nothing.
The distinction matters because HP's slim writer is a very similar-looking part with a nearly identical name: the DV-W28S (note the W) under spare 506468-001. If you need to burn discs, you want that part, not this one. I am spelling this out because a read-only drive listed carelessly is the single most common source of disappointment with these.
Read speeds are 24x CD and 8x DVD.

A NOTE ON THE AGEThis drive was manufactured in April 2010 and has sat sealed since. It is new old stock, not a current product. I am telling you that plainly rather than leaving you to work it out from the date code. The bag has never been opened and the drive has never been installed, but it is a 15-year-old part and I have not powered it up.
CONDITIONNew, factory sealed. The drive is still in its sealed HP anti-static bag with the orange static-caution label intact - you can see this in the photos. I have not opened the bag, so I have not tested the drive. Sold as new sealed old stock.
