This is one of the coolest old school hps around, the hdx 18 with its huge 18.4in screen!

I got this as a fixer upper, and I can now proudly claim to have given it a new breath of life! I put in a fresh special battery and found a compatible Dell plug i had and got to work. This machine uses ddr2, so getting it past 3 or 4gb of ram is a challenge. I found with only 3gb it was virtually unusable with win10 and all its background tasks. So I put in the only 4gb ddr2 stick I had to jump it to 6gb! Coupled with a 750gb hdd, its now extremely capable!

I found this machine has amazing speakers and screen, so watching YouTube or bluray discs in the drive should be great!

To get the most out of this machine, i disabled all background tasks and ran the o&o shut up tool to disable any extra checks that big brother Microsoft wants to run all the time. And for browsing, I put on the brave browser with an h264ify extension to improve YouTube playback and have built in ad blocking and the ability to hide intrusive parts of a web page with just a click. It runs smooth and quiet at all times!

As for condition, it certainly was someone's beater beat box machine before I had it. The keyboard is missing its '-' keycap and the left trim piece is missing, but all the ports still work and the key nub still presses and recognizes fine. The battery and charger both work, but they are not original. You can expect maybe 3hrs of charge if you hypermile it. That big screen uses a lot of juice!
