The HP LP2480zx was engineered in close collaboration with DreamWorks Animation to replace CRT reference monitors on film and animation production lines, bringing studio-grade color accuracy to a price point professionals could actually afford. What makes it special even today is its true 10-bit S-IPS panel with real 10-bit drivers, not the 8-bit-plus-dithering trick ("FRC") that most "10-bit" monitors rely on now. Each of the red, green, and blue channels is driven across a full 1,024 discrete steps, delivering over 1.07 billion actual colors — versus roughly 16.7 million on a standard 8-bit display — for silky-smooth gradients with zero banding or contouring, even in the most demanding color work.
