Welcome. This is the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Product Tour for the HPE Nimble Storage HF-series Storage Array.
This video provides a visual tour of the storage array, its primary features, components, ports and exterior controls.
Once the front bezel is unsnapped from the front of the array, we can see 24 drive slots. They are numbered, starting at the bottom-left, 1 through 4, next row up and starting at the left, 5 through 8, and so on.
The array can support HDDs, Hard Disk Drives, one per drive slot, and SSDs, Solid State Drives, also known as flash drives, two per drive slot in a single Dual Flash Carrier.
On all HF-Series models except for the HF20H, chassis slots 1, 2 and 3 contain dual flash carriers for SSDs. On the HF20H, dual flash carriers are found in slot 1 and 13. The remaining slots contain single drive carriers for HDDs.
On AF-Series models, all chassis slots are populated with Dual Flash Carriers.
For HDDs, the drive operational LED is located at the top left of the HDD drive release button. Below it is the drive fault LED.
For SSDs, the drive carrier fault LED is also located at the bottom left of the drive carrier release button. Above it is an LED that is not used at this time.
Each SSD, A on top and B on bottom, contains a drive fault LED located at the top left of the SSD drive sled release button. And below it, the drive operational LED.
On both left and right chassis handles, marked B on the left, for the B controller, and A on the right, we find LEDs: Controller ID Button, Controller Status LED, and Controller Power LED.
On the right handle only, we find the array Power Button and underneath it, the Power Supply Status LED.
During normal operation, the front bezel should remain on.
Now, lets turn to the rear of the array chassis.
The HPE Nimble Storage HF-Series Storage Array chassis contains two redundant controllers and two redundant PSUs, power supply units.
Located in bottom left of each array controller is a BMC port and two USB ports. Note that both BMC and USB ports are disabled, and should not be used.
Located in the bottom right of each array controller is a 3.5 mm serial jack and a pair of HD SAS3 12 Gb/s expansion ports.
Each array controller contains two 10 Gb/s Ethernet ports to the right of the BMC and USB ports.
In addition, array controllers can have additional copper 1 Gb/s, copper or optical based 10 Gb/s Ethernet ports or 16 Gb/s Fibre Channel ports through NICs, Network Interface Cards for Ethernet or HBAs, Host Bus Adaptors for Fibre Channel.
Each Ethernet port contains a speed LED and a Link LED.
Each Fibre Channel port also contains a Green and Amber LED.
The controller status LED is located below the serial jack.
Each power supply unit contains an IN LED and below it, an OUT LED.
