This is a Brand new LG WH14NS40 firmware version 1.02 that came from the factory with firmware 1.04 or 1.05 depending on date of manufacture, and service code NS50. With 1.04 or 1.05 installed, these drives are not able to read a 4K disc, developed in an effort to further the anti-piracy movement. I have changed the firmware to the last, most stable version that makes the NS50 drives capable of reading 4K UHD discs - version 1.02.

This drive will function as a regular WH14NS40 would. What makes my drive special is additionally it will READ a 4K disc, guaranteed. 4K was developed around anti-piracy, so PLAYING a 4K disc on your PC has a huge list of requirements. This is only one piece of the 4K chain. I CANNOT guarantee you will be able to plug this in and play a 4K disc on your PC.It will, however, READ a 4K disc. Therefore, with additional software (NOT included in this sale), this drive canprovide youoptions to decrypt, rip, burn, copy, etc, giving the potential to change a 4K disc to a playable file format. Additionally, "official UHD" drives now come with a firmware installed that make them incompatible with copying software. You CANNOT just go out and buy a 4K drive and start ripping files! The ONLY solution is to have a drive like this that is "UHD friendly".
