Very unusual preserved Livescribe Pulse 4GB Pro Pack that appears to have spent most or all of its life stored in the original packaging.
The package is not factory sealed, but the contents appear remarkably untouched. Original factory twist-ties and packaging materials are still in place, and the special binder/notebook and included accessories are present.
Unfortunately, the rechargeable battery appears to have failed from age while the unit was stored.
I performed limited non-invasive testing only. The pen has not been opened, disassembled, modified, or subjected to a battery-replacement attempt.
Testing performed
- Windows correctly detects the unit as a Livescribe Pulse smartpen.
- USB hardware ID is consistent with the Pulse: VID 1CFB / PID 1020.
- Correct Livescribe Pulse USB driver was successfully installed (sourced from the internet)
- The device reaches Windows power state D0 while connected to the charging dock (implies internal pen components are working)
- Holding the power button while docked produces the pen's reset sound.
- The display remains blank.
- The pen does not respond when removed from the charging dock.
- No further repair or internal testing has been attempted.
Based on these symptoms, the internal rechargeable battery may have failed due to age, but no guarantee is made as to the exact fault. The display, battery, or other internal components may require repair.

What makes this example unusual is the completeness and condition of the package. Rather than a loose, heavily used smartpen, this appears to be a largely unused Pro Pack whose battery simply aged while sitting in storage.
