NOTE: This unit experiences the typical problem all others do over time if you plug the controller in "wrong" , grounding on the d-sub connector causes a hum.

This can be corrected using the tin foil method: tightly wrap the connector in tin foil on the outer metal shield, ensuring no gap when inserted.

But usually just pushing in one direction and tightening the screws does it. That's what I've always done.

You can always reterninate the end. I didn't bother.
