Oracle Sun Fire X4270 M3 / Sun Server X3-2L 2U Rack Server – Tested
Used Oracle Sun Fire X4270 M3 (also known as the Sun Server X3-2L) enterprise rack server. This system has been extensively tested prior to listing and is in working condition except for one SAS hard drive that showed elevated SMART/error data as detailed below.

Testing performed
This server was powered on and tested prior to listing.
POST / BIOS
- Server successfully completes POST
- Both Intel Xeon E5-2630L processors detected
- All 64GB RAM detected
- BMC status reports Healthy
- Oracle ILOM/service processor initializes normally
- No system fault indicator observed during v8.10 completed one full pass
- 0 memory errors
- All 63.9GB usable memory tested
- Both CPU sockets / 12 cores / 24 threads detected
- Maximum CPU temperature observed during MemTest was approximately 48°C
- Test duration approximately 1 hour 45 minutes
Storage / RAID
- LSI MegaRAID controller detected and operational
- All 12 approximately 558GB RAID0 virtual disks detected by SystemRescue
- 12 physical 600GB Hitachi 15K SAS drives detected behind the MegaRAID controller
- SMART information successfully read from physical SAS drives
Tests Done:
- Confirmed the LSI MegaRAID SAS 9261-8i controller initialized successfully during POST.
- Confirmed the controller presented 12 RAID0 virtual drives, each approximately 558 GB usable.
- In SystemRescue, lsblk confirmed all 12 virtual disks (sda through sdl) were visible to Linux.
- Used smartctl --scan to identify 12 physical SAS drives behind the MegaRAID controller, device IDs 8–19.
- Queried SMART data directly through the MegaRAID controller using smartctl -d megaraid.
- Confirmed the drives were Hitachi HUS1560SCSUN600G 600GB 15K SAS models.
- Reviewed SMART health information including temperature, power-on hours, grown defect list, non-medium errors and uncorrected errors.
PCIe Flash Storage
- Four Broadcom/LSI SSS6200 PCI-Express Flash SSD controllers detected by Linux
- 16 approximately 93GB flash devices were visible to SystemRescue
- Flash devices/controllers were detected but were not subjected to destructive write or endurance testing
Power Supplies
- Both redundant power supplies tested individually
- Server remained operational from either PSU tested under SystemRescue
- Physical Ethernet link successfully established (LOWER_UP)
- Remaining network interfaces were detected but were not individually cable-tested
Condition
Used enterprise server with normal cosmetic wear from previous installation, handling and rack use. Please review all photos for the exact physical condition.
The system is sold in the configuration described above. No operating system is installed or included. Existing storage configuration/data should not be relied upon and drives should be erased/reconfigured by the buyer before deployment.
Included: Server as pictured with installed CPUs, memory, RAID controller, 12 SAS drives/caddies, PCIe flash hardware and dual power supplies and power cords.
Not included unless pictured: rack rails, keyboard, monitor, diagnostic USB, software licenses or other accessories.
Due to the age and specialized nature of this enterprise hardware, buyers should confirm compatibility with their intended operating system, rack environment and application before purchase.
