This rare retro gem is an Alienware Area-51m in the "Saucer Silver" color, featuring a full desktop Pentium 4 processor running at 3.2 GHz. Not only is this a desktop class CPU, but it was also one of the first Intel chips to feature hyperthreading support! Information available on this model appears to be extremely limited on the internet, but early Alienware machines like these were typically based on Clevo custom build laptops. A full 100-page copy of the original 766 series manual is included with this machine, as it provides some useful information on both troubleshooting and some hardware upgrade procedures.Released circa 2004, this machine has since been restored and refurbished to the fullest extent possible on such an old device, including: thermal paste replacement, CMOS clock battery replacement, thorough interior dusting and cleaning, and benchmarking to stress test all components under load, and the original slow hard drive has been upgraded to a silent and blazing fast SSD.Every attempt has been made to maintain the original Alienware software installation on this computer, rescued from a dying hard drive. I also have another Alienware machine from around the same era that has been used to extract certain drivers that were unable to be recovered. The result is a nearly complete restored copy of the factory Alienware software and customization, while minimal, that was done to the Windows installation from the factory. Condition NotesNew CMOS clock battery installed to avoid "CMOS checksum error" message on bootup.CPU thermal paste has been replaced for best cooling performance.Old hard drive removed and replaced with upgraded 120GB SSD.One of the lid latch mechanisms was damaged and has been glued back into place. Please see photos for exact damage that is visible.Original power supply was missing upon restoration, so an aftermarket unit has been sourced and will be included with order.Speakers tested OK, but had some coil whine and noise when WiFi card was enabled. To mitigate this, WiFi was disabled in Device Manager first, and then in BIOS. Issue appears to be resolved after this fix. WiFi card will be installed and included in case you wish to troubleshoot further.The main battery does not hold a charge, and will need to be replaced if you wish to operate the laptop without power supply plugged in. Machine functions as intended on AC power. Testing conducted with battery installed in current state.Some wear and tear visible on the chassis, but overall good shape for its age.Protective plastic peel appears to be intact over the alien on the lid of the device.SSD partitioned into two partitions, main system partition and storage partition. Remaining SSD capacity left unallocated to reduce wear and tear on the drive.Shipping Information
