This is the desirable early Tandy keyboard used with the first generations of Tandy 1000 computers. It features the distinctive90-key layout, separate numeric keypad, 12 function keys, HOLD, BREAK and PRINT keys, and the original8-pin DIN connector.
This particular keyboard has received afull restoration and servicerather than simply being wiped down and resold.
Restoration / Service Performed
The keyboard was carefully disassembled and restored.
Work performed includes:

- Removal of accumulated dirt and debris
- Keyboard mechanism inspected

The result is a much cleaner, brighter and better-presenting keyboard than the typical unrestored Tandy 1000 keyboard found today.
Because this is original 1980s hardware, some minor age-related cosmetic variation may remain.
Compatibility
This keyboard uses theoriginal proprietary Tandy 8-pin DIN keyboard interface.
Direct compatibility — no adapter required
This keyboard is intended for use with:
- Tandy 1000
- Tandy 1000A
- Tandy 1000 HD
- Tandy 1000 SX
- Tandy 1000 TX
These systems use the early Tandy 1000 proprietary keyboard interface and are the primary machines for which this keyboard was designed.
Compatible with an adapter
This keyboard can also be used with:
- Tandy 1000 TL
- Tandy 1000 SL
The original TL and SL use a later7-pin DIN keyboard connector, but retain support for the earlier Tandy 90-key keyboard protocol.
An appropriately wired8-pin-to-7-pin Tandy keyboard adapter is required.
Adapter is not included.
This should not be confused with a simple off-the-shelf DIN plug adapter. The adapter must be specifically wired for the Tandy keyboard interface.
Tandy 1000 EX / HX
TheTandy 1000 EX and HXuse related early Tandy keyboard technology, but their keyboards are integrated into the computer chassis.
These machines do not provide a standard external 8-pin keyboard connection for directly attaching this keyboard.
Therefore this keyboard shouldnot be considered plug-and-play compatible with an EX or HX.
Not compatible through the simple TL/SL adapter
This keyboard should not be purchased as a standard replacement keyboard for:
- Tandy 1000 SL/2
- Tandy 1000 TL/2
- Tandy 1000 TL/3
- Tandy 1000 RL
- Tandy 1000 RL-HD
- Tandy 1000 RLX
- Tandy 1000 RLX-HD
- Tandy 1000 RSX
- Tandy 1000 RSX-HD
Later Tandy models changed the keyboard implementation and do not retain the same straightforward legacy-keyboard support found on the original SL and TL.
Important Compatibility Note
This isNOT a standard IBM PC, XT or AT keyboard.
Although the connector and appearance may resemble other vintage PC keyboards, early Tandy 1000 computers use a proprietary keyboard interface.
It is alsonot a PS/2 or USB keyboard.
Please verify the model of your Tandy computer and its keyboard connector before purchasing.

As with any approximately 40-year-old piece of computer hardware, minor cosmetic imperfections, small marks or slight color variations may remain.
