🔥 Key Features
- Galvanic Isolation, Powered by Itself: A digital isolator breaks the signal path between the USB side and the CAN side, and an on-board DC-DC converter gives the CAN side its own 5 V and its own ground. Nothing external is needed to make the isolation work — no separate supply, no ground loop, and a fault on the vehicle bus stays on the vehicle bus. Terminal pin 3 is that isolated ground; do not tie it to your PC's ground.
- Open Source Hardware, Actually Published: We do not only build on open hardware — we publish our own design back. The full schematic and PCB layout for this exact board are on our GitHub (dsdtech-official) as editable design files, not pictures, under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 licence, together with the firmware images. Every claim above is in that schematic. Go and check it.
- CAN FD at Full Speed, Out of the Box: No reflashing, no serial port, no separate mode to switch into — the candleLight build fitted at the factory carries CAN FD over the same gs_usb interface as classic CAN, at data rates up to 5 Mbit/s with 64-byte frames. Same microcontroller and same firmware as our SH-C31A, tested on this board with the isolation in circuit. Units produced from September 2026 ship with our current build, v1.4.
- Built for a Real Bus: A 4-pin 5.0 mm screw terminal instead of jumper wires — CAN_L, CAN_H, isolated ground, and isolated +5 V that can feed a small node on the bus side. A 120 ohm termination switch is built in, so you can switch it off on a bus that already has two. Each CAN line runs through a resettable fuse and a TVS clamp, and the USB side has one of its own.
