While the SMC TigerSwitch 6948L2, a 48-port 10/100-Mbps switch, shares the same user interface, management capabilities, and feature set as the 6724L2 24-port switch, it's far more than just the same switch with twice as many ports.

The 6948L2 has a rated aggregate throughput of 13.6 Gbps and supports 256 VLANs, as compared with the 8.8 Gbps and 64 VLANs of the 6724L2. The larger switch also supports 12 port trunks as compared with the 6724L2's four.

The back panel of the chassis has a connector for an optional redundant power supply. Added features not available in the 6724L2 include per-port broadcast storm protection thresholds and per-port MAC-level security. Port mirroring on the 6948L2 is vastly improved over that of the 6724L2: You can select any port as a mirror source port and any other as a target. Surprisingly, QoS is limited to two priority queues, as compared with four on the 6724L2.
