Up for grabs today is a very rare fora 286xl laptop! From the outside it looks very similar to a compaq slt machine! But it has a larger screen, better keyboard and an actually normal power supply!

I got this unit in actually thinking it was a compaq, but I was very surprised to see it show up as a Fora International branded unit!

Plugging it in brought me to the bios screen straight away, but after exiting it, it still wouldn't boot up. I opened it up (just a few screws under the keyboard and hinge caps) and found the hard drive model as a connor cp3044 unit. Connor drives were used in a lot of older machines like this, but it doesn't make it any easier to find a replacement drive. Because of the unique small 3pin plug that the laptop power cable has, its not compatible with a normal ide desktop drive. Its pretty annoying when the actual connor drive itself has compatibility for the normal 4pon molex, but the laptop doesn't. Oh well.

You can log into the bios and watch the memory count up to 1mb and see its 12mhz 286 cpu. The hard drive spins and sounds relatively healthy, but there's just zero movement from the heads. I think it could be whatever rubber seal is used to keep the drive safe just turning to goo and gluing the control arms in place, but who knows with these age machines. Shame, I really wanted to put win3.1 on it.

Maybe you can find a replacement drive or want to experiment with like a cf card conversion, but I don't have any spare time to mess with it anymore.

Comes with laptop and charger. Battery life on this unit is surprisingly not zero, but I suspect total runtime can be measured in minutes not hours. Sold as pictured. If you have any questions just ask. Thanks for looking!
