Vintage Osborne 1 OCC-1 portable computer, serial number A13075. Early tan-case version of the Osborne 1.

This computer was acquired untested. I performed one brief power-on test. The unit powered on, produced a startup beep, and the built-in CRT illuminated. I did not have an Osborne CP/M boot disk, so the computer could not be booted and the floppy drives, keyboard, ports and other functions were not tested.

During the test, after the computer had been powered on for a short period, I heard a crackling sound followed by an electrical odor and visible smoke. I immediately switched the computer off and unplugged it. It has NOT been powered on again and should not be powered on without inspection/repair by someone familiar with vintage electronics.

The original video shorting plug marked “DO NOT REMOVE WHILE POWER IS ON” is included. This plug had already been removed before I received/tested the computer and was not removed while the computer was powered on.

The computer has not been opened or disassembled by me. No attempt has been made to diagnose or repair the electrical issue.

Cosmetically, the computer presents well for its age and appears substantially complete. Please review all photos carefully for the exact physical condition and everything included.
