Vintage Packard Bell Legend 822CDT Tower PC Computer w/ Windows 95 WORKING, READ
The listing is for the desktop tower, some drivers/install disks I made, and the serial IR receiver with remote. There are NO other cables, NO monitor, NO keyboard, NO speakers, and NO mouse included.
The specs of the computer are as follows:-Pentium 100MHz-56MB RAM (8MB onboard)-1.2 GB Hard Drive-Crystal Sound Card w/ DOS Drivers-Windows 95-8X CD-ROM Drive-3.5" Floppy Drive-Cirrus Logic 1MB SVGA
PLEASE NOTE: This era of Packard Bell desktops has some significant qwirks and this machine holds true to that. It has an onboard CMD PCI0640 MDMA Controller for handling the IDE bus which is known to have a bug where concurrent floppy drive and hard drive usage can cause data corruption if it lacks proper drivers. Windows 95 does have these drivers as most affected operating systems were Win 3.1 / OS2 Warp and older. With that being said, the PCI0640 can still have its moments and I have the BIOS set to only use one of the IDE channels because of this; I would NOT re-enable both channels.
Due to this, the computer will NOT upgrade to any newer operating system. Windows 98 is a no-go, trust me as I tried and failed multiple times with it in all sorts of configurations.
Some internal components were upgraded/updated:-Coin cell adapter installed as the previous battery was dead and soldered directly to the motherboard-Recapped IBM Aptiva power supply installed; original one had failed and was unable to be repaired-8x CD-ROM installed as the original 2X one was very finicky with CD-Rs and media in general-Updated to the latest BIOS
The computer is in working condition and has been stress tested and play tested. Games work well in DOS with sound and mouse controls. The IR receiver and remote I could not get to work even with what I assume are the correct drivers, but it's just a novelty evenso.
The computer housing has some scuffs/scratches on it from age and use. The front lower part where the intake fan is located is missing.
This is not a computer to connect to the internet, it is mainly for be knowledgable about computers from this era and how to use older Operating Systems. Hardware of this age can fail as anytime despite my thorough testing and use. Everything I work on is to the degree I would be proud to have it in my personal collection as I am a hobbyist/enthusiast myself.
