Overview:Up for sale is this vintage 2005 SHARP MEBIUS TX Model PC-TX32K Media Center PC all the way from Japan! This is a super rare PC only sold in Japan, so finding it here in the US in this condition is really rare. In fact, just finding one in Japan is difficult and only a few blog posts world-wide even exist today. (The reddit post online is of this exact unit, and I'm the poster!)
Cosmetically, this system is in excellent shape for its age. Everything is complete and functional, and the original remote, wireless keyboard, subwoofer, and power supply is all included. I am including a period-accurate SHARP 26in LCD TV as shown, but please note that it is not the original Japanese TV that was sold with the set, but rather it is a US/Canada SHARP TV from the same line. For this reason, the included original Japanese TV remote will not control the included TV, but it will still work on the computer itself for the mouse and Windows control.
Work done to this unit:When I received this set, the computer didn't work properly. It wouldn't boot and had some issues with the memory and hard drive. I replaced the HDD and RAM with new parts, and gave the entire unit a really good cleaning, and loaded the factory recovery image to restore all original apps and drivers. I also replaced the belt in the optical drive, and cleaned the lens to ensure it works properly. Now, it boots quick, launches apps well, plays North American DVDs with ease, and the keyboard and accessories work properly too!
Cosmetic issues:There are a few minor cosmetic issues with this set, such as a tiny crack in the plexiglass front panel, a small dent near the rear of the computer in the corner, and some light wear to the TV set. Please see the last few photos for details. Overall, the cosmetic condition is still fantastic, and the few minor blemishes that exist are only visible close up and at the right angle.Functionality issues:When the unit hasn't been used in a day or so, the DVD drive gets stuck and won't open until you toggle the eject sequence 3-5 times. I'm guessing this is an easy fix, but I'm leaving this one for you to fix. In the end, it doesn't affect operation, you just need some patience to press the eject button a few times. The trackball mouse on the wireless keyboard is really finicky, and sometimes doesn't want to work right. Original product reviews of this set really criticized the mouse, so I'm not sure if it's just a poorly designed mouse or something's dirty inside the roller mechanism. Either way, the included TV remote has an intuitive mouse pointer you can use one-handed that is way better than the trackball!
International disclaimer:This is a Japanese PC, so the OS language and system is all in Japanese. You can install English Windows XP, but this would blow way the OEM apps and special features. In addition, the subwoofer uses a 100V power source, so you will need a 120v-100v step down transformer to use the subwoofer in the US.
