Just installed UBB on our site (remote host's unix server) at www.lasinternational.com/ubb. All functions working okay except email functions. If I set the sendmail path to the ISP's preferred /usr/sbin/sendmail, I get a Server Error and the log shows "Bad header. No recipient address found."

The email addresses are all valid and correct. I have tried it with various email functions including lost password, UBBFriend and email to member list. All the same results.

If I change the path to /usr/bin/sendmail (leaving out the "s"), I don't get an error message (I get the confirmation of the mail being sent from UBB), but nobody ever gets an email.

Hopefully somebody can help. We'd like to launch the site soon. (P.S. The host is Domainhost.)

According to your hosts FAQ, the sendmail path is /usr/lib/sendmail . Change the sendmail path in General Settings to that.

I've used both paths to no avail. See original message for results when using either path. In speaking with Domainhost's tech person, she said I could use either path, but /usr/sbin/sendmail was preferable - that gives me the Server Error. If I use the /usr/bin/sendmail, I don't get a Server Error, but nobody ever gets an email either (as per the above post)!

After working on the phone with their tech person, she couldn't see why it wasn't working, but admitted that she didn't know what the various UBB scripts are doing for mail functions. She was also curious as to why when using what they rpefer for the sendmail path, the server error showed the message of "Bad Header. No recipient address found."

Please reread my post above. The path I told you to use is neither of the two that you are currently attempting to use.

I apologize. Just tried /usr/lib to no avail. Get Server Error message.

Neilw, there are two email addresses to setup in general settings, make sure both fields are filled in. Also, some hosts have sendmail setup to not accept emails with return addresses not being hosted by them. For instance if you have a domain called www.yourplace.com and had an email address setup in general settings called []me@somewhereelse.com[/] their sendmail may reject the email. You would then have to have email addresses in general settings set to something like []me@yourplace.com<br[/] />

No joy. I've checked the 2 email addresses in the General Settings and they are @lasinternational.com addresses. Still curious why the error log that Domainhost's tech person was looking at earlier showed "No recipient address found" whenever I tried to use an email function (using their recommended /usr/sbin/sendmail path). On each email attempt I am sure I had valid recipient addresses entered. Of course I'm no wiz at scripts, so I don't know how accurate the error log messages are.

Read the thread and it was sounding like a perfect fit. So I tried checking all cgi's (in the cgi-bin/ubbcgi directory) to see what the perl paths were. All were the "new" suggested path: #!/usr/bin/perl.

To be on the safe side, I did upload all new cgi's (as text). Still have the same problem. Nothing's changed.

Hope there are a few more ideas out there.

I'm not really sure what else to try for troubleshooting this problem. You might want to open a support ticket with Infopop. Choose "Installation Problems" from the drop-down menu.

To close this thread out, I did submit a support ticket to Infopop and got quick assistance. Turns out it was a problem of permission settings (which they resolved) combined with using the Domahost suggested send mail path. When all permission settings were set correctly, usr/sbin/sendmail worked. Thanks to Infopop tech support! <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> The board is up and running and working fine.

Neilw, hi!
could you tell, please, how did you solve your problem? I have the same. What permissions for what files exactly did you edit?
Thanks. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

is that mean, that cgi directory must be with 777 permissions???

I don't think that is necessary. Ours is set at:

drwxr-xr-x Jan 12 15:21 cgi-bin

Since we installed the board back in January and had the permissions set as per the above settinsg, all has worked properly. I cannot say for sure that all of the above permission settinsg are the right ones. All I can say is that all functions appear to work.

Shouldn't I add an SMTP server to control panel? I have a "sendmail". it's a UNIX. No SMTPs on my host. What can I do? HELP! <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
