close the board.
It is on the first screen when you enter the control panel.
When complete you select open board same place.

1. Go to: Control Panel
2. Click: Close Board

Your forum is now in "maintenance mode"

You can also close your forum, and set the general "Forum Closed" message, from
"Master Settings" -> "Primary Settings" -> "General Tab"

You are given two options:
"Close Board?" - Which closes your forum (just like the link on the CP Landing page)
"Closed Message" - This is where you set the body of the closed message that your users will see.

When the board is closed.
Only a admin will have the ability to browse the forum and make edits
