Until the Responsive 7.6 version is ready (which looks Outstanding!! on this site, BTW) is there an easy way to disable the left column for Mobile users?

If you allow the member to turn them off they can do it themselves in mystuff/preferences for now.

I realize that, but I think the majority of my members wouldn't know how to do that, and it doesn't help non-members coming there for the first time.

I'd like to have it automated if possible based on browser window size.

Thank you laugh
A lot of work and testing has gone in rewriting the scripts to where they are today. Intentionally keeping the same presentation as all your current users have become familiar with, was goal number one.

The 7.5.x series has so much of the window display and sizing hard-coded throughout the scripts and templates, that makes automatically turning on/off columns based on display widths (mobile sizes vs tablet/laptop/desktop sizes) not really something that can be performed by just a dash of CSS or a dash of JavaScript.

Just curious, in 7.5.9 what keeps the columns from resizing like body_col does?

I understand exactly what you're asking, and want to expand your question to also include many items related to a mobile layout, since this is what the main topic of the thread is titled as.

A:
1) Your style's custom width setting.
2) Inlined widths within the right/left columns.
3) Hardcoded settings within the ubbthreads.php library.
4) No @media queries within the reset/common css file.
5) No header viewport scaling settings.

Bonus A:
1) No javascript to toggle the column display back ON for mobile users on sites which have navigation information within their columns.
2) Several forum elements are wider than a 320px screen, or wont allow wrapping. A post's Edit/Reply/Quote button line pushes the page out of screen bounds on devices such as all iPhones and older, non-flagship smartphones.
3) The navbar wraps in the middle of menu items.

There could be more, but these few are just off the top of my head smile

I understand there's a lot that goes into a Mobile layout. I was just looking for a intermediate measure.

I noticed the columns were set to percentages (width) if I resize my Browser window the body_col resizes but the column does not.

It seems the Shoutbox has a set size somewhere I was wondering if that was flexible somehow.

1,2,3,4 are the real killers 😕 because even if you tossed in #4 (even with an !important on the width value) to your CSS, the inlined #2 & hardcoded #3 would override it. #3 is setup as a "10% / 80% / 10%" layout (as hardcoded HTML, not CSS) for using both L and R side-columns, and a different percentage for just a single L or R side-column. This leaves the body_col getting a different percentage for each of the three variations.
