Well, I am a Mason, and that IS a kickass hat, but still not correct. It is a part of the Masons though.

looks like a Shriner hat to me. At least my brother has one of those hats. If I can spell correctly my brother is a past potentate. And a current worshipful master.

Yup, Ruben is correct, also known as the Knights Templar. I was being installed as the Commander of my Commandery for the 2nd year.

I'm the one standing to the right of the Knight with the beard and no sword. The other Knights are both past Grand Commanders for the State of Michigan. The one with the beard is our current Grand Recorder (secretary) for the State of Michigan Grand Commandery.

I've seen some Knights in a ponytail sticking out from under the chapeau. By the next time I have to get into the uniform (we don't wear them for regular meetings) next year I expect my hair will be at least to my shoulders again, with a full beard too. Decided since I no longer have to conform to corporate America I am going to change my looks. Just think, a 60plus hippie traveling around in a motor home...hehhehehhe

Well congrats on the honor. Thank you. It's taken me 5 years to get to this point. If we were going to stay in Michigan, fat chance of that, I was going to make a trip up the Grand Line in the Masons to become Grand Master of Michigan, but I refuse to spend another winter in this god forsaken state. LOL.

Though I'm only at about 3" (again), I had it about 4' at my last donation. That and the big red beard ... Though a 26 year old with 4' of hair is some how the norm in some places lol

Lol yeh, minimum donation length is like 10"; so I figure "hey, I'll donate for as many sections as I can" so figured I may have grown enough to make an entire wig :x...

I had a pony tail off and on during my life and I'm quite sure I went to more than one lodge meeting with my hair tied in a tail. I can't think of even one time anyone said a thing about it.

Oops, sorry Greg, hadn't noticed your question. I've not been active since I moved out here from the lodge I was raised in, no. That's a shame, as they offer so much to a man. I'm taking over as Master of my lodge next month, am active in both Royal Arch and Council and also the Scottish Rite. Did you keep your membership? The benefits of being a Mason are so many it's hard to describe them all.

I'm a life member of the lodge, though the lodge is 3200 miles from me. That's great! You should look into transfering to a lodge near you or perhaps like I'm doing, do a plural membership and be a part of 2 lodges. I can't stress enough the benefits and what a great group of people the Masons are. We had a Table Lodge tonight and each time we pass a box around for collections for a charity of the Masters choice. He announced that this time the proceeds would go to a "brother in need", which was me. I came home with an unexpected $115 for my 'relief'. They have come through for us in such a huge way this past year I can't express my gratitude enough in words.

Gizmo, you would really be surprised who would be at the lodge, I know I was when I joined. People I had known for years and never had a clue they were Masons were there as I was initiated into the "craft".
