I am with WebCentral too, and they told me exactly what they told you, "it will affect other customers on the server...."
The truth is, IT DOESN'T!!!
Just log a job in the Mission Control and ask them to map CGI to Perl. And if they say it can't be done, tell them it can be done AND IT HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE.
What Hal said is correct, they are thinking they have to reconfigure the entire server settings, but they only have to re-configure the settings for your site.
The person who configured it for me was Chris Horn (Technical Account Manager).
If anybody at WebCentral says they can't do it, say that Chris Horn did it for another customer back in February.
Also make it clear to them that they don't have to change the configuration of the entire server, it CAN be done for individual accounts on a server.
Persistence will eventually pay off in the future, well it did for me anyway!!
