I think it would be beneficial for admins and mods. Sometimes I see the forums before my email, so I might miss the modq/regq initially.
Even if they just put a ! in a triangle next to it showing that there are items in the CP that require attention. This could even be expanded if another suggestion of mine (Report Posts delivered to a queue in the CP) becomes reality.
