To be honest - I wouldn't have the first idea where to begin editing that code.
There is another side to this issue though...
It's not only when posting that weird things happen.
For instance, one guy was having great fun with making multiple posts so I thought I'd reset his post count.
The same thing happens in the control panel.
Every time I hit 'submit' the page hangs...
So perhaps this is not just an email issue?
(I have downloaded threads - but it's going to take a while before I go live - and this double post count is driving me nuts
