If you add a custom header, don't forget to add a custom footer.
I tend to use custom headers for various forums, with the same footer for each (however you still need to copy the standard footer into the custom footer box, otherwise it will not be shown)
Sadly you cannot have custom header/footers for categories, which is a shame
