Ah! I figured it out. It is worded a little funny on the portal settings and I never thought about it until now, maybe it's me.
"Only show left column on portal page?" For some reason my brain wanted to see something like "Enable Left Column" or "Show left column." Remember, I am an automotive technician - Sometimes I can be guilty of
flat rate reading.
