Read my post again.
If say you have a post with three reply's and you edit the first post subject using the standard edit button. When you submit all the reply's still have the old subject title. Then if you use the rename feature it will rename the subject from the first post to all the reply's.
I don't know if I would ever use it unless there are pages of reply's
