Like I said it was hard to nail down switching between browsers but I will stick with IE7 for a while and see when I spot it again.
So I can be more specific.
But I do know one instance was in the forum summary page it showed new posts in the admin zone and bug forum. After reading the bug forum I went back to the forum summary and the admin zone showed no new posts but when I opened the admin zone forum the new posts showed.
